Rules

1. No asking for where to download or assistance to run OSX on PCs _not_ supported by Apple.
2. No discussions regarding locations of where to illegally obtain commercial media, such as software, product keys, music, movies, etc.
3. No defamatory remarks toward other members, such as personal attacks, insults, taunting, etc. (at ops discretion)
4. Assume the channel is rated PG-13.
5. Avoid flooding the channel. Use http://paste.lisp.org/new/ and provide the URL.

Guidelines

• <Doctor> Be mindful of users who live outside of countries which have Apple Stores and Genius Bars. Getting service from Apple in these places may not be as straight-forward as in the US, Canada, UK, etc.
• Before asking a question you might first try searching for answers related to your question using your favorite search engine. There are many free, Apple related resources available on the web. There's a good chance that frequently asked questions related to OSX can be found.
• <TDT> Use your brain, and remember there are actually humans behind every nick, even behind bots. So, don't say anything which you wouldn't tell them, in real life forum.
• <adiabatic> Don't be a jerk to other people in the channel. In other words, don't be a live example of John Gabriel's Greater Internet Dickwad Theory
• Abusive Behavior:
• <rorx> Well, here's my stance. I don't expect all of you will agree with what I do or don't consider flagrant behavior. I'm sure everyone's tolerance for this will vary. Though, I think compared to most channels, you will likely find I am more tolerant of what the participants are allowed to express. As a result, I expect all participants to be responsible for their own conduct. I realize some of you will find this policy to be too lenient to your liking, however. I try to draw the line at what I consider to be obvert, blatant offensive behavior toward others (see rule #3). But nevertheless, be mindful that some will get away with verbally offensive remarks. However, I think with your help, in time, the worst offenders will be noted and dealt with.
• <rorx> So, as to what you can do to help. If you witness what you feel are frequent cases of verbal abuse, or personal insults being made by a particular member, bring it to the attention of an active operator(s). Failing that, feel free to report them to myself via private message. When reporting, please include a copy of the messages you consider to be flagrant, with time stamps (specify time zone if not UTC). This way I can verify and investigate the relevant conversation in my own channel log. This will help me be aware of the most frequent violators of rule #3, and deal with them as needed.
• Advertising/Promotion:
• <adaminsull> is promoting a channel allowed here?
• <rorx> adaminsull: It's frowned upon if it's just for the sake of promotion. But you can suggest it if someone asks about a topic related to it.

History

#MacOSX was officially registered on December 2002, although it had been in existence several months before that time. It was founded by me, (rorx) after deciding to use OSX as my main desktop operating system, starting with DP 3.
